July 2018 Dividend Income

Can you believe half of summer is over already? July was pretty exciting for me. I celebrated my birthday during the first week of July and on the ninth of July I celebrated my one-year Blogiversary. The rest of the month was pretty much just kicking back, collecting dividends, and saving income. This is technically an “off” month for me. I receive the lowest number of dividends from the least amount of companies. But it was still a good month. For the month of July 2018, I received $429.95 in dividend income from four (4) companies!

Medical Properties Trust (MPW) – $225.00

Starwood Property Trust (STWD) – $103.20

Realty Income Corp (O) – $41.36

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) – $60.39

July 2018 Dividend Income Total: $429.95

The first month of the quarter is always my “off” month. I get paid the least amount of dividends from the lowest number of companies I own. Nevertheless, it was still a pretty good month. Compared with July 2017 (where I gained $377.44 in dividends), this year I saw a 13.9% year over year increase in dividend income! This month includes GSK’s fluctuating dividend, so my income is a bit lower then April 2018. But you’ll never see me complaining about a double digit increase year over year! I’ll take that!

Last but not least, there are the dividend increases (and decreases)! I guess I will start with the decrease. GSK decreased their dividend slightly to $0.4961 per share which lowered my forward annual dividend income by $13.78. GSK’s dividend is always different each quarter, so there is nothing shocking here. On the other hand, SRLP increased their dividend to $0.6675 per share. This increased my dividend income $1,500.75 to $1,535.25 for a $34.50 increase to my forward annual dividend income from SRLP. So, with one decrease and one increase, I end the month with a net dividend gain of $20.72. My portfolio now stands to generate $9,046 in dividend income over the next 12 months.

With that July 2018 is over. I am looking forward to August, which should be a record month for me since my new purchases and past dividend increases will materialize this month. September will probably be even better as quarter ending months usually are. So how did the rest of you do this month? Any record breakers? Any new buys? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂
