The Beach is My Happy Place

Ah the beach. I find it so nice and relaxing. It goes without saying that the beach is my happy place.

That is the best part of the summer. Once the warmer weather comes along, it is straight to the beach on my days off.

This got me thinking of what life would be like financially independent and free.

I thought about this sitting at work one day. It was such a beautiful day outside and I was stuck in an office dealing with some nonsense.

I wanted to be outside. I really wanted to be at the beach.

I love the sound of waves crashing on the shore, the sight of blue water against the majestic sky, and feeling of the cool sea breeze against my skin.

I love the feeling of sand under my feet. Some people hate sand, but I love the feeling.

All of that makes me feel so content and peaceful. It really calms me down.

Finding Your Happy Place

We all have our happy places. Mine turned out to be the beach.

I spent most of my childhood summers at the beach.

My mother was a huge beach-goer and nearly every other day on summer break she took my brother and I to the beach.

We became such regulars that all the lifeguards, beach police, and salespeople there knew us. Plus, we developed our own circle of friends we met there who we would see every year.

Overall, it was really a lot of carefree fun.

Actually, to say my mother was a huge beach-goer is an understatement.

When she was a child, she would say that she wanted to “come back as a seagull” (that is, reincarnate so she could be at the beach all the time).

At my mother passing, we had her wake beach themed with pictures, fake palm trees, a hammock tied around them, etc. It was a beautiful thing to see during such a dark time.

After my mother’s death, I had stopped going to the beach.

Years passed and passed. But as time went on, I felt a really hard longing to return to the beach. Like it was something I needed.

Sometimes I wonder if it is genetic or the way I was raised (or both).

Conclusion

(Yes, that is yours truly. I don’t think I ever posted a pic of myself here)

If I had financially freedom, I would definitely be at the beach much more.

That feeling of wanting to be at the beach instead of in the office itself, is so incredibly motivating to continue to build up my wealth and investments for that great achievement of financial freedom.

At the same time, it is great to enjoy the present day and time.

The beach is my happy place.
