January 2019 Dividend Income

This first dividend income report of the new year! I begin the year, the same way I began last year; with an “off” month. On an “off” month I received the lowest amount of dividend income from the least amount of companies. These types of months happen on the first month of every quarter. Nevertheless, I am happy to report that this is a record-breaking “off” month! So, in addition to my two recent stock purchases earlier this month, I am beginning the year on a new record!  For the month of January 2019, I received $459.51 in dividends from six (6) companies!

Medical Properties Trust (MPW) – $225.00

Starwood Property Trust (STWD) – $103.20

Realty Income Corp (O) – $41.55

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) – $58.06

Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW) – $15.00

PepsiCo (PEP) – $16.70

January 2019 Dividend Income Total: $459.51

And with that a new “off” month record is set. This month’s numbers represent a 20.6% year over year from January 2018. There were two things that made this record possible. The first is that I just received my first dividend payment from ITW! The second was that PEP paid out in January whereas for the rest of the year PEP will pay out on the last month of a quarter. So, this means that I will not see the $16.70 boost on this month set for the rest of the year. The silver lining is that with my recent purchase of CAH I will soon be receiving $21.43 each quarter starting month.

And finally, there are dividend increases! First up is O, which increased its dividend to $0.2255 per share. That raised my forward dividend income from $498.57 to $508.73 for a $10.16 increase from O. Isn’t the monthly dividend company great? My other dividend increase was from ED which raised its dividend to $0.74 per share. This raised my forward dividend income from $165.88 to $171.68 for a $5.80 increase from ED. One thing I love about ED is that they are my electricity provider and when they pay me a dividend, they are paying my electric bill.

All in all, the total amount of dividend increases this month came to $15.96. As it is right now, my portfolio now stands to generate $9,474.47 in forward annual dividend income over the next 12 months! Back in December, I set some financial goals for myself and I am well on my way to achieving those goals. I also inch closer to two great milestones: crossing the $1K mark for a month and crossing the $10K mark in forward dividend income. The new year is off to an exciting start!
