March 2019 Dividend Income – The $1K Milestone

Boom! A new milestone has been reached! For the first time ever, I have crossed the $1K mark in dividend income for a month! March 2019 will go down in the records as the first time I entered 4-digit territory for monthly dividends! I am super happy and so excited about this! I am 3 months into my 5th year of active investing. In the 4 years prior, reaching this moment was all but a dream. Now it is reality! This is the most I ever received in dividend income from the largest amount of companies. This month I received $1,013.21 in dividend income from eleven (11) companies!

Pfizer (PFE) – $61.92

Southern Company (SO) – $121.80

International Business Machine (IBM) – $151.49

Target Corporation (TGT) – $44.80

VF Corporation (VFC) – $34.17

McDonalds (MCD) – $82.78

Realty Income Corp (O) – $42.39

Ares Capital (ARCC) – $399.84*

Consolidated Edison (ED) – $42.92

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) – $14.40

PepsiCo. (PEP) – $16.70

*Includes Special Dividend

March 2019 Dividend Income Total: $1,013.21

And there it is! All new records and a new milestone at once. This month’s results represent a 11.1% year over year increased from March 2018. These new records, along with crossing the $1K per month milestone, were made possible by two things (aside from organic dividend increases). Firstly, I received my first dividend payout from JNJ. Secondly, there was the special dividend declared by ARCC. That was really what pushed me past the $1K mark for the month. The special dividend is expected to continue for each of the next 3 quarters of the year. Looking ahead, I should stay above the $1K mark from here on in, especially once new stock purchases are made.

Next up, there are the dividend increases from this past month. For the month of March there was just one dividend increase. O increased their dividend to $0.226 per share. This raised my forward annual dividend income from 508.73 to $509.88 for a $1.15 increase. A small amount, but as we all know, these small amounts add up to big amounts over time. Therefore, I will happily take it!

Overall, this has been a great month for dividend income. Aren’t quarter ending months great? My portfolio is now set to generate $9,563 in dividend income over the next 12 months. I am inching closer to the next milestone: crossing the $10K mark in forward yearly dividend income! Even though April is an “off” month, I am looking forward to a new round of dividend increases that will help me achieve my goals. I am also looking forward to making new stock purchases. So how was your month? Any record breakers? Let me know in the comments below!
